An actor or actress (see terminology) is a person who acts in a dramatic production and who works in film, television, theatre, or radio in that capacity. The ancient Greek word for an "actress," ὑποκριτής (hypokrites), means literally "one who interprets"; in this sense, an actor is one who interprets a dramatic character. From Wikipedia under the

Many of us would "like" to be in a movie or a show, etc. But we have no experience, no talent agents, no nothing. We're not even sure if we're that great actors/actresses, though everyone else keeps on telling us so. And even if we were to think we were great, it seems to risky to just jump out, get an agent and start going to auditions when you think you'll regret it later thinking, "god, I should have looked for a decent job/worked up with my grades then." So how did the actors/actresses really get on their career? I know you need good theater roles around your belt, etc, but even those people start wishing to become TV/screen actors/actresses later. For me, I'm really interested in acting and singing, but I know that it's very risky… [cont.] Asked by meh - Tue Oct 9 18:37:06 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Honestly, Luck. Combined with some skill and experience of course. It's really all being in the right place at the right time. My mother is a casting director, and she has agencies sending her hundreds and hundreds of headshots of models and actor/actresses. You need to get good headshots and make sure you have good facial expressions. Also, I would suggest taking some acting classes so you really know some of what you need to do. Go to as many open casting roles as possible. It's only by chance that you get discovered. Hope that helps, Good Luck! Answered by dcmattco - Tue Oct 9 18:48:40 2007 Anyone know how to find info on actors/actresses and if they are treated equal in their jobs? Q. I am doing an Essay for my English Comp class and I would like to find more information about actors and actresses and if they are treated equally. I am having trouble finding this. Asked by Becsteroni Magl - Mon Oct 2 09:16:46 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't think they can be treated equally, as most actresses have to show their breasts to get movie parts, and there is no male equivalent of this. They also have to engage in lesbian sex scenes more often then males are asked to. Many hollywood actresses have to go on diets and cant eat very much food, as if they gain weight, they will lose their jobs. I'm not sure if they are more lenient with men, but I would guess they are. The organization that might help you more information on this topic, is the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). Here's their website: Answered by Minkus - Mon Oct 2 09:23:01 2006 Are the actors and actresses in Twilight playing in all four movies?
Q. I was wondering if the actors and actresses that played in the movie Twilight will be playing in New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. I think they will because of the fan base. The fans will be horribly angry if they change characters, so the actors and actresses will probably be offered more money to stay. Does anyone know for sure? Asked by Skylar L - Tue Jan 6 22:11:04 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. It was just announced that Taylor Lautner WILL be Jacob Black in New Moon. I nearly screamed when I heard! he just needs to gain 19 pounds (in muscle probably, not fat.) Also, it is rumored for Ian Mcellan (sp?) to play Aro. I hope so, he'd be perfect! For Kirsten and Rob, they have contracts for three movies, so there will have to be a contract renewal for BD, but it would be silly to use anyone else. (this is something I'm not 100% sure of, just 99%.) For other characters like Charlie, Jessica, Angela, etc. I'm sure they'll keep. There is no reason to be rid of them, they don't need major transformations. Plus, since they are smaller, they won't need much bribing to stay.
