The term child actor is generally applied to a child acting in motion pictures or television, but also to an adult who began his or her acting career as a child; to avoid confusion, the latter is also called a former child actor. Closely associated is teenage actor, an actor who reached popularity as a teenager. Regulation of child actorsThe activities of child actors are regulated by the governing labor union, if any, and state and federal laws. Longer work hours or risky stunts, prohibited in California, for example, might be permitted to a project filming in British Columbia. Some projects film in remote locations specifically to evade regulations intended to protect the child. In the United States, federal law "Specifically exempted minors working the Entertainment Business from all provisions of the Child Labor Laws." Any regulation of child actors is governed by disparate state law. CaliforniaDue to the large presence of the entertainment industry in California, it has some of the most explicit laws protecting child actors. Being a minor, a child actor must secure an entertainment work permit before accepting any paid performing work. Compulsory education laws mandate that the education of the child actor not be disrupted while the child is working. Whether a child actor is enrolled in public school, private school, or home school, the child does schoolwork under the supervision of a studio teacher while on the set. Finally, the hours a child actor may work are limited. Generally, stricter time limits are imposed for younger actors. A very young infant might be allowed "under the lights" only a few minutes a day. It is common in television production for the role of a young child to be portrayed by identical twins or triplets to reduce each child's time on set. When a child turns 18, the legal limits on work time are lifted. From Wikipedia under the

Q. This Child is a mixed 13 year old and i wanted to know if she has a chance at becoming succssesful in this buissness or if its just a joke! Asked by Courtney - Mon Jun 29 18:44:57 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. first, the child has to be deadly serious about doing this and has to realize the great amount of time and commitment this is going to take. she is going to have to give up whatever she's doing to per sue this and have a chance at success. once she starts this she has to do it all the way or not at all. a parent will have to give up what their doing as well. they will have to take the child where ever she needs to be for calls, and will have to be on the set with her when ever she works till she's 18. she will not be able to do this on her own. this is going to be expensive to start. before she does anything she will need some acting classes, 1 to see if she's going to like doing this and 2, to see if she has any talent or potential for… [cont.] Answered by R K - Mon Jun 29 20:58:57 2009 If a child actor stars in a movie with a restricted or pg-13 rating, can they attend its premiere? Q. Pretty useless but I've always been curious. Asked by sashafierce? - Thu Aug 21 18:59:13 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. First of all, PG-13 is a guideline, not a restriction. As for R rated movies, I'm pretty sure a child who starred in an R rated movie wouldn't have much trouble getting parental permission to attend the movie's premier. Furthermore, the MPAA ratings system is completely voluntary and so the real question is whether the theatre showing the movie would attempt to prevent the child actor from attending. Answered by Justin H - Thu Aug 21 19:12:14 2008 What is a day in the life of a child actor like?
Q. Around when do you arrive at the studio/set, do you go to school, how and when do you shoot scenes, what do the less important actors do, and when do you knock off? I'd prefer detailed, helpful answers, but any help would be very appreciated. Thanks :) Asked by Powerman21 - Mon Aug 10 03:24:29 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I had to do some research on child actors a few weeks ago for school. I know that young celebrities do not have that easy a life as it seems. They have to arrive at the studio the same time as the other co-stars. Age doesn't usually play a part in the timing. They have less interaction with other children their age, so they have to "mature" at a faster rate than the rest. This gives them life deprived of childhood and innocence. These actors actually gamble their education away too. They may have private tuition, but the mindset that they are celebs and don't need to study changes their attitude towards studies. They often have less time for studies. They don't have a fixed future. I mean, anything can happen when you're growing up,… [cont.] Answered by Cadbury Dreams - Mon Aug 10 03:37:25 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Child actor" |
