GermanNounFilm m. (genitive Films or Filmes, plural Filme)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Film encompasses individual motion pictures, the field of film as an art form, and the motion picture industry. Films are produced by recording images from the world with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects. Films are cultural artifacts created by specific cultures, which reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them. Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for educating — or indoctrinating — citizens. The visual elements of cinema give motion pictures a universal power of communication. Some films have become popular worldwide attractions by using dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue. Films are made up of a series of individual images called frames. When these images are shown rapidly in succession, a viewer has the illusion that motion is occurring. The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement. The origin of the name "film" comes from the fact that photographic film (also called film stock) has historically been the primary medium for recording and displaying motion pictures. Many other terms exist for an individual motion picture, including picture, picture show, moving picture, photo-play and flick. A common name for film in the United States is movie, while in Europe the term cinema is preferred. Additional terms for the field in general include the big screen, the silver screen, the cinema and the movies. From Wikipedia under the

I don't know much about the film industry quite yet, so that's why I plan on getting into a good film program in college. I have only one concern: how do filmmakers such as producers, screenwriters, and directors make money from their films? How do independent filmmakers make money? Asked by Jamie W - Tue Jan 6 23:44:02 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. They make their money because they are essential to the film making process. When there movies get distributed, they get a cut of what the movie makes, just like the actors Answered by Bambi16 - Wed Jan 7 00:33:56 2009 What takes cigarette film off of laminate flooring? Q. Q. I have declared a double major in film and journalism in order to pursue avenues of work that I know I will enjoy but many people are telling me it is impractical to double major in two things that don't significantly enhance the other major (such as Journalism and Broadcasting; Film & Broadcasting; Film & Photography; English and Film, etc.) Do you think that I will inevitably forego one field for the other and later on look back and believe that I wasted my money on school? Input? Advise? Has anyone else done this? Asked by Roswell - Fri Oct 19 21:02:24 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I double majored in TV Production and Journalism with tons of ambition, high hopes for great creative work, etc. etc. I had even minored in Graphic Arts as a back-up. Guess what? Hope you're doing it for a Pulitzer or some other award and couldn't care less about money. Doesn't pay worth doodlie unless you are the 1 and 1/2 percent of grads in those fields who stick it out for decades to get high paying management jobs or the even fewer grads who get hired by ILM or Disney Imagineering, etc. etc. I went back to school late (at 25) and graduated top of my class in 2000 from a great university. I paid for it all myself and I did 3 internships, one of them with the state legislature's tv channel and another with the top-ranked news… [cont.] Answered by MMM - Fri Oct 19 22:16:21 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Film" Quotes regarding Film - Cinema, Movies, Motion pictures - and film makers.
