From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Television (TV) is a widely used telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images, either monochromatic ("black and white") or color, usually accompanied by sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television programming or television transmission. The word is derived from mixed Latin and Greek roots, meaning "far sight": Greek tele (τῆλε), far, and Latin visio, sight (from video, vis- to see, or to view in the first person). Commercially available since the late 1930s, the television set has become a common communications receiver in homes, businesses and institutions, particularly as a source of entertainment and news. Since the 1970s the availability of video cassettes, laserdiscs, DVDs and now Blu-ray Discs, have resulted in the television set frequently being used for viewing recorded as well as broadcast material. Although other forms such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) are in use, the most common usage of the medium is for broadcast television, which was modeled on the existing radio broadcasting systems developed in the 1920s, and uses high-powered radio-frequency transmitters to broadcast the television signal to individual TV receivers. Broadcast TV is typically disseminated via radio transmissions on designated channels in the 54–890 megahertz frequency band. Signals are now often transmitted with stereo and/or surround sound in many countries. Until the 2000s broadcast TV programs were generally recorded and transmitted as an analog signal, but in recent years public and commercial broadcasters have been progressively introducing digital television broadcasting technology. A standard television set comprises multiple internal electronic circuits, including those for receiving and decoding broadcast signals. A visual display device which lacks a tuner is properly called a monitor, rather than a television. A television system may use different technical standards such as digital television (DTV) and high-definition television (HDTV). Television systems are also used for surveillance, industrial process control, and guiding of weapons, in places where direct observation is difficult or dangerous. Amateur television (ham TV or ATV) is also used for experimentation, pleasure and public service events by amateur radio operators. Ham TV stations were on the air in many cities before commercial TV stations came on the air. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by Feisty - Tue Apr 8 00:54:52 2008 How do you become a television producer? Q. I was wondering how does someone become a television producer? What kind of education do you need? Experience? Specifically, if you want to work for major networks like CBS, ABC or NBC and handle their primetime or daytime division or start your own production company. What advice would you give to help someone accumulate the proper experience and skills? And prime themselves for a career in television production? Thank you in advance. Asked by Jules4 - Tue Mar 10 20:43:27 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Two words - work experience! There are no formal qualifications for being a TV Producer, and it's not an easy ride to get there... you can't take a degree in it and expect to get a job straight away, it takes many mane years of hard work. It is useful to learn about the media - read magazines and broadcasting and keep up to date with what is being commisioned and broadcast, what is popular etc. When you apply for your first jobs they will be entry level, intern type jobs - office assistant, runner - that type of thing. and then you just have to learn - shadow people, ask for work experience with people you admire and gradually work your way up. you'll be a researcher for a long time, then an associate producer and finally, if you're… [cont.] Answered by emmanorrey - Tue Mar 17 17:29:43 2009 What's the difference between television and film screenplay format?
Q. I have to convert a film script to television in about a week. Asked by John S - Fri May 16 14:25:11 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you are converting a script for an existing TV show it is very important for you to get a sample of one of the show's current scripts and, or their 'Bible' which is a guideline for how to write for the show. If there are no such things then I will just make these suggestions: A film format is typically (but not always) 120 pages which translates to 90 minutes of running time. A TV script's length also has 1 minute = 1 page but the order and structure is different due to TV commercial breaks. There is usually a suspenseful moment just before the TV breaks to get the audience to come back to the show. There's also often a 'teaser' before the start of the show which introduces the show and gets people to stick around to watch past the… [cont.] Answered by Haji - Sun May 18 11:47:12 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "television" Quotes regarding Television This theme article needs cleanup.
